Congratulations to our friends at the Waban Library Center–10 years, just like us!

Mayor Fuller presents Alice Jacobs of the Waban Library Center with a commendation in recognition of 10 years of the WLC

In June 2009, the ACL opened its doors as a volunteer run community library.  Just a few months afterwards, in September of 2009, the Waban Library Center was born.  Our friends from the Waban Library Center celebrated their 10th anniversary this past weekend–congratulations!

Be A Part of the Process: Take the Newton Arts & Culture Survey

The City of Newton is currently undertaking a 7-month planning process to create a Comprehensive Arts & Cultural Plan for the city.  The Auburndale Community Library is of course a part of the cultural fabric of Newton, so let’s have our voices heard!
The plan, entitled Create Newton, will identify all of Newton’s arts and cultural assets – from our buildings and non-profits, to the events and festivals we host, to the local traditions and initiatives in our villages and neighborhoods. The city will explore how arts and cultural goals and interests are aligned with our businesses, recreational opportunities, and commercial districts, and identify goals, set out recommendations, and seek opportunities to collaborate and expand our pool of funding.
Input from parents, and children 12 years and older, who enjoy Newton’s arts and cultural events is greatly valued. Please take 10 minutes to complete this anonymous survey to assist in the planning process: HERE.

(Please note that the survey is best taken on your computer and not on your smart phone or smaller device.)

Ward 4 Meeting at Burr School – Presentation on Zoning Redesign – March 7th 6.45 p.m.

From Ward 4 Councilor Chris Markiewicz
Neighbors:
There will be a presentation by the City’s planning dept. on the proposed new zoning ordinance Thursday evening March 7th,  at Burr School.
The presentation begins at 6.45 p.m.  I expect that the Planning Dept. will take questions.
You can read the first draft of the ordinance and find a link to the zoning map ( proposed ) here: http://www.newtonma.gov/gov/planning/lrplan/zoning_redesign.asp
There is a lot to this effort, the first comprehensive change to our zoning ordinance in 70+ years.   BTW, I believe much of our immediate neighborhoods here in Ward 4 ( Auburndale and Lower Falls ) is proposed as an R2 district.  Details about R2 are in the draft.
I hope to see you on Thursday night.  Apologies to those getting duplicate emails, I am hitting all of the listservs that I can.
Regards,
Chris
