Auburndale Community Library a treasure

Newton has a rare gem called the Auburndale Community Library. It is a non-profit community library staffed by volunteers and funded 100 percent by donations. Open to everyone, the Auburndale Community Library is open Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays. It is a beautiful space, with large windows, comfortable seating, and a diverse collection of more than 14,000 items.

There is a large children’s area perfect for Toddler Story Hour each Tuesday at 10:15 or the LEGO Club. Their list of ongoing activities is appealing to kids and adults.

What many do not realize is how precious the library, staff and board are to the community at large. For example, during the summer they open their doors and support Newton Community Pride’s Dancing in the Park program. They have allowed other Newton based non-profit organizations to hold events at the library. They reflect the best of Newton. They develop and deepen the sense of community amongst our villages.

If you haven’t had the opportunity to appreciate the treasure within, I highly recommend you visit and support the Auburndale Community Library. It is located at 375 Auburn St., Auburndale. You can learn more at its website, www.auburndalelibrary.org. — Davina Fankhauser, Auburndale
