Overdue book returned – 53 years late!

One of the nicest things about helping out at the library is getting to chat with our patrons who love the library as much as we do. Sometimes patrons are surprised to hear about the history of the branch libraries closing and how this library now runs entirely on volunteer power and donations. Often times the visitors surprise the volunteers with memories about the library and Auburndale from years ago. In any case, we love it when folks stop by, whether it’s for a book, to use the computer, for storytime, or to reminisce.

A little while ago, a visitor dropped by and had a good laugh with one of our volunteers about an overdue book that he had from the library. A very overdue book. An overdue book that was due 53 years ago.

We thought you’d like to read the nice letter we got a few weeks later from our visitor, Mr. Midgely. It just goes to prove that this library has been well loved by folks for years. And we aim to keep it going for still many more years to come.
